Cognis Mental Health
Proactive, Neuroscience-Led Psychotherapy in London
Approach & Philosophy.
When I was designing my private practice, I reflected on what worked - and what I felt was lacking - when I worked with a therapist a few years ago. I swiftly landed on the word ‘proactive.’ To me, therapy should of course be a reflective process, but with a consistent impetus to drive us forwards towards where we want to be, rather than rooting us in the past. With that at the forefront of my mind, I worked on a model that was proactive, upbeat, rooted in neuroscientific concepts, and that would lend my clients the confidence they need to get better until they can find their own.
I have a particular interest in the human stress response, and how it impacts almost all aspects of wellbeing and performance. My model of work is based around neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, and cognitive therapy, and is predicated on the steadfast belief that everyone, no matter who they are, if given the right tools can help themselves.
Clients, Conditions, & Pricing.
In private practice, I have a particular focus on stress, and its impact on mental health. The main conditions I work with are stress-based disorders, anxiety, low mood, and unhealthy relationships with alcohol and other substances or behaviours.
Whilst I am lucky enough to enjoy working with clients from all walks of life, the vast majority of my clients tend to work, or have worked, in financial services, the law, insurance, tech, and the arts.
Sessions take place online, and are - unless agreed otherwise - one hour long. For the vast majority of clients, we begin with weekly sessions, and then once up and running and making good progress, this gradually decreases in frequency.
Rates:
Initial Half-Hour Consultation: Free
One Hour Session: £200 (+VAT)*
*I retain a small number of client slots for those on low or no income, which are priced using a ‘pay what you can’ model. If you are interested in these slots, please flag this when you get in touch.
N.B. For cancellations within 24hrs of a scheduled appointment, 100% of the fee will be due (this may be waived on a discretionary basis).
About Jack.
Throughout my youth, and into my 20s and early 30s, I always struggled with my mental health. Despite a diagnosis of depression and anxiety, I never found the agency to address these issues outside of medication. I spent a decade working in the City, but consistently struggled mentally, to the point where I had a breakdown and ended up in hospital.
At this point I realised I was the only one who could make the changes I needed to live a happier and healthier life, and I set about doing the work on myself I’d always been to scared to start. It was a long, tough, but ultimately fascinating and uplifting process, and it made me realise that I wanted to help others navigate their versions of that path.
I retrained as a psychotherapist, holding an MSc in Psychology and Neuroscience as well as various vocational qualifications (including in CBT, Hypnotherapy, and NLP), and I have run my private practice for the last six years, along with a corporate service working with organisations to address culture, performance, and wellbeing issues.
